New HolloFlex® cleanroom for the space and defence sector

10 April 2026ProjectsHugo Woudsma
Technical achievement on the seventh floor

We look back with satisfaction on the successful delivery of a challenging cleanroom project for a client in the high-tech industry. The customer, a specialist in space and defence developments, had highly specific requirements for their new controlled environment. We fully integrated this cleanroom facility on the seventh floor of an existing multi-tenant building, combining complex logistics with technical precision.

HolloFlex® cleanrooms: The flexible cleanroom system for ISO 6 to 9

The HolloFlex® cleanroom system is engineered for organizations requiring a future-proof and adaptable working environment. As professionals in cleanroom technology, we provide a fully demountable and relocatable solution, ensuring your investment retains its value during process changes or facility relocations. The innovative hollow-wall design offers unparalleled flexibility; not only is the layout easily adjustable, but utilities can also be integrated quickly and efficiently. By routing air returns directly through the walls, net floor space is optimized without compromising performance. For environments requiring ISO Class 6 to 9 compliance, HolloFlex delivers a cost-effective solution tailored to your specific operational needs.

Key features of the HolloFlex® cleanroom system:

  • Asset value retention: Fully demountable and relocatable, ensuring your investment remains secure during future reconfigurations or facility moves.
  • Maximum flexibility: The layout can be easily adapted to accommodate evolving processes or production expansions.
  • Efficient installation: The hollow-wall design allows for rapid and seamless integration of utilities and technical services.
  • Optimized floor space: Air returns are integrated within the walls, eliminating the loss of valuable net floor space to external return ducts.
  • ISO-Compliant quality: A cost-effective solution for environments operating within ISO Class 6 to 9 standards.
Our approach: tailored logistics for critical innovation

For a customer working on space and defence technologies, a flawless environment is essential. However, the location of this project presented a unique challenge: the seventh floor. Due to the size of the required construction materials and the limitations of the internal elevators, we developed a meticulous time and logistics plan.

To enable the installation, a window on the seventh floor was temporarily removed, after which all components were hoisted inside. This operation was necessary to construct a high-quality 40 m² facility tailored precisely to the customer’s complex processes. Through extensive assessment of the specific requirements within the space and defence sector, we created a design that delivers maximum performance within the physical constraints of the building.

The technology: engineered for high-end process control

For the technical configuration, we selected our registered HolloFlex® cleanroom system. This system provides the flexibility and quality required to realise a cleanroom environment within the available functional and structural parameters. In the design, we specifically considered the interaction between technology and people:

  • Climate control: given the sensitivity of the customer’s processes and the expected heat load, a high-capacity air-conditioning unit was integrated. This ensures a stable temperature, crucial both for equipment and employee well-being.
  • Light and space: to create a spacious feel, we made full use of the available height, resulting in an internal height of 2.60 metres. Additionally, we aligned the cleanroom windows with the original façade windows, maximizing natural light and further enhancing the sense of space.
  • Lighting: highly energy-efficient LED panels were installed based on a precisely calculated lighting plan, ensuring optimal illumination of every square metre for precision work.
Our full-service approach: from concept to ISO certification

The completion of this cleanroom underscores our ability to act as a full-service provider in cleanroom technology. We managed the entire process: from the initial concept developed by our in-house engineering department to physical installation by our specialised technicians.

After construction, we subjected the facility to a rigorous ISO validation. We officially certified the intended ISO class 7, ensuring the customer could confidently begin developing their advanced systems for the space and defence markets. This project demonstrates that—even under complex logistical conditions—we deliver turn-key solutions that meet the highest industry standards.

Direct benefits for the user:

  • Full turnkey solution – design, hardware, installation, furniture and accessories: a single point of contact.
  • Maximum cleanliness performance due to flush walls, floor and ceiling.
  • Maximum cosmetic appearance for client and supplier presentation.
  • Lowest power consumption and operating costs in the market.

ProCleanroom delivers as promised. As a client we have nothing more to wish for. ProCleanroom works with clients to achieve minimal leadtimes.

F.L.Syncreon Electronics

After our first modular softwall cleanroom was installed in 2011, we have selected ProCleanroom once again in 2014 for our expansion.

B. ScholteKONI - Automotive

Important to KONI was the short leadtime and installation time of the cleanroom. Because the demanding schedule was achieved, we could proceed with the commissioning of our FSD manufacturing line as scheduled.
